Pinay Devotions: Truth Will Set You Free
We celebrated our Philippine Independence Day last June 12. We celebrate freedom from Spanish rule. In many ways gaining our freedom, whether it be independence from a conqueror, the right to vote, the right to choose who you will marry and the right to equality in the workforce is a triumph over bondage.

In the book written by Rebecca St. James and Lynda Hunter Bjorklund entitled, SHE: Safe Healthy Empowered they gave us ten questions to ask ourselves to gauge if we are truly free from the bondage that keeps us from experiencing the best life God has for us. For today's reflection, let's go over these questions.

1. Do you struggle to let go of the past?

2. Do you have trouble forgiving others, yourself or God for certain things that have happened to you?

3. Do you fear what might happen in the future?

4. Do your goals, possessions or relationships leave you wanting but never finding contentment?

5. Do you allow one or more habits to control you?

6. Do you ever lie or cheat?

7. Do you often feel sad or depressed?

8. Do you stay busy so you won't have to deal with hard issues?

9. Do you resist quietness and alone time?

10. Do you get mad easily?

If you answered "Yes" to any one of these questions, you may not be as free as you think. Try and reflect on your problem areas and what is causing them. Then reflect on Jesus' words.

"You will know the truth and the truth will set you free... If the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free." - John 8:32,36

2008-06-01 SHE Event, Hannah Montana, ...

Life is a Highway...in "Voke"ville: The SHE Event...&...Happy Anniversary, Baby Cakes!
WOW! Last night I was blessed to be able to go see Rebecca St. James and Evie Karlsson in Lansing. (...)

What we went to was called "The SHE Event": Safe, Healthy, & Empowered- A special mother, daughter and friends event. There were women of all ages...tiny babies through great grammies. You could just see the estrogen flowing! :+)

Both women (Rebecca and Evie) were very dynamic. I was especially moved my Rebecca St. James and her call to purity and modesty for all single women and girls. Since there were so many young girls there, I pray that they were moved, too. At one point, they turned the lights on and opened up the floor for a Q&A session. One mother in particular expressed her graditude for Rebecca being such a great role model for girls and asked her to address the "Hannah Montana" craze. For those of you living on planet Mars (or maybe you don't have younger girls), Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. Rebecca's first words were "Pray for her. Pray for her. Pray for her. She needs massive prayer". She then went on to say that the Cyrus family attends the same church that her family does in Nashville and so she does know the family to be "dedicated believers who love the Lord" but that Miley in an industry that is full of lies and deceit...Satan's forte. She also said that often times, Miley feels very lonely because there aren't many children her age that can relate to her level of stardom. I imagine she has a hard time leaving her house with much peace and quiet.

So, I encourage you, with your Hannah Montana crazed daughters, to pray for this precious young soul together. And lift her up so that she "may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil" Ephesians 6:11.

The six contestants are Chelsea Ellis, Casi Crews, Mary Beth Harrison, Alisha Edwards, Kelsey Adams and Ann-Marie Riley.

(...) Riley's sister is friends with the reigning St. Clair County Jr. Miss Laura Hornsby. That's how she found out about Jr. Miss.

Her life statement is, Jeremiah 29:11-13 says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope in the future. Then you will call upon Me and I will listen to you. Then you will seek Me with all your heart." That means when I seek God with all my heart, He will reveal himself to me.

For her talent, Riley will be signing Song of Love by Rebecca St. James.
